Mehmet Gökhan Menteş

Gökhan Menteş works as a Key Expert in charge of Component 2 – Inclusive Local Governance Processes of LAR III Project under Inclusive and Democratic Governance Portfolio in UNDP Turkey. He is a senior consultant with a diversified experience involving civil servant services in the central and local governments as well as academia and the private sector. During his professional life, he contributed and managed major projects in the fields of transportation planning, housing development, regional planning and real estate appraisal. He graduated from City Planning Department of METU, Ankara in 1973 and received his MA degree on Regional Planning and Resource Management from University of Waterloo/Canada in 1975. He instructed at METU for 12 years (1981-1994) and managed the Ankara Transport Study and Kızılay-Batıkent Metro Design Project (1987-1989). He served as the Deputy Vice President of TOKI (1992-1994) in charge of three departments and municipal housing projects. In the period of 2004-2013, he consecutively worked as a Key Expert in 5 EU-funded projects including cultural heritage-based tourism development in the GAP region/Turkey and Palmyra/ Syria and the socioeconomic integration of internal migrants in the four largest cities of Turkey, all involving participatory strategic planning. During 2012-2014 period, he developed the transport strategy and contributed to the overall spatial planning of the Greater Baku/Azerbaijan in a large project funded by the WB.
